We live in the age of information and knowledge. Got a problem? All we have to do is google the answer or ask Alexa or Siri. We have facts as close as our fingertips or our lips. However, more knowledge isn’t enough to solve our problems, especially if our problem is too much weight on our bodies.

We think all we need is more information to fix our issue and if we have that we can conquer our issue. However, it takes implementing that knowledge to solve any problem. It takes action.

Too Much Information

I love researching before making a decision. This tendency can hold me back from implementing if I don’t do anything until I have researched every angle of an issue. And let me tell you, there’s always more to learn about everything.

This kept me stuck in super morbid obesity for way too many years. I researched how to lose weight. I went on every diet imaginable because they all seemed to have the answer. However, I already knew what to do and why. I was just trying to find an easier answer, one that would let me eat what I wanted and lose weight at the same time.

I knew from what God had told me in 1977 that what I needed to do was stop eating foods made with sugar and flour, but I didn’t want to do that. I wanted to have my cake and eat it too. I kept searching for the magic fix, but I already knew the truth. Had I just started on learning how to change my habits years ago, I would have saved myself much misery.

What Is Truth?

John 8:32 in the King James version says, “You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.” In the case of what I needed to do to lose weight, I knew the truth but it did not set me free in this one area.

This concerned me because I knew from John 14:6 that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. Jesus was my Savior so why wasn’t I free in this area? When I read John 8:32 in The Message, I finally got it. “If you stick with this, living out what I tell you, you are my disciples for sure. Then you will experience for yourselves the truth, and the truth will free you.”

The truth isn’t just believing that Jesus is our Savior. Truth happens when we live out what Jesus has already told us to do. Truth is born out in our actions. Truth is not just more knowledge about what God can do in our lives. Truth is experiencing what He can do in our lives because we are actually living it out.

Breakthrough Requires Action

It’s not amassing more head knowledge. I had read enough diet books. I had sat through enough meetings and programs. I had listened to enough diet gurus. I didn’t need to find out what another diet proposed that I eat. I had to put all that I had learned into action. I had to do something. I had to act on what I already knew.

When I fully accepted that I was a sugar addict, I began to dissect the experiences I had on diets. Some worked great for me in one area or another but failed miserably in others such as helping me know what to do for the long-haul.

I finally got it. I needed to implement what I already knew. Going on another diet wasn’t what I needed. I needed to figure out my own forever lifestyle change plan with God’s help and stay with that.

I thought since I got myself in this mess, I was the only one who could get myself out. This is true in part. I’m the only one who can put down that donut or the fork-load full of mashed potatoes. First, though, I had to totally surrender to God to be my strength and my guide. Otherwise, I would have fall flat on my face yet again.

Implement What You Know

Our brains are already full of information. What we need is implementation. We need to implement what we know before we learn anything else. This is the only thing that will bring change. Knowledge is more than knowing what to do, it is doing it.

My calling is to help women transform their lifestyles in order to lose weight. I know many more changes will happen when they start down that path. Because of where I’ve been and the victories I’ve had in this area, I am now able to help others get free of the things that keep them in prison to certain foods. I love seeing others receive their breakthroughs. I love sharing with them the tools and resources they need.

More than anything I love seeing lives transformed into the people God designed us to be—body, soul and spirit. It can happen. It happened to me. I’ve lost more than 250 pounds with God’s help and kept it off since 2013.

Let me ask you, what shows the world more about the truth you believe? Is it the books you’ve read and can quote? What you say you believe? Or is the real test of your truth what actions you take, what you do?
