Do we really need so much when many have so little?

Boxes linger,
bits of tape with shiny
paper.
Cling tight.
Scatter endlessly throughout the room.
Don’t leave.
Don’t throw them away.
It will end.
It will be over.

I tried to say I love you
With stuff.
My love
language
not yours.
Maybe taking time to
Talk and laugh and be crazy
Would be
better.

Maybe money
invested
In a budding
entrepreneur
In a third world country
Given as a
gift in your name
Would say I love you
More.

Maybe it would
Speak to your compassion
For all
mankind.
And in some way acknowledge
the gift
You are to me.
Life that goes beyond
today.

Enough.
I’m stuffed.
You’re stuffed.
America is stuffed.
With things we do not need.
Gifts should share love.
Heal.
And transcend
stuff.
