Thanksgiving is a special day we set aside aside to give thanks to God for His blessings throughout the year. It’s also a day to thank Him for giving our lives meaning and purpose.
We probably all heard in grade school that the first Thanksgiving in America was celebrated when the Pilgrims and Native Americans came together to celebrate a good harvest.
This followed a difficult first year after the Pilgrims arrived in America when food was scarce. Without the Native Americans showing them how to fish and what to plant, they might not have survived their first few years here. They were learning their purpose here was to survive.
It was Abraham Lincoln who made Thanksgiving a national holiday in 1863. This was a very wild time in United States history to be sure. However, Lincoln understood the necessity of our nation coming together to give thanks.
He was refocusing the purpose of the United States towards giving God thanks for bringing a divided country together. He was giving us meaning by drawing us together as a nation that recognizes God is where our blessings come from.
Direction and Calling
I don’t know about you, but I have many reasons to give thanks to God this year. One of those is a renewed thankfulness for God’s direction and calling in all that He has me share with you. Each time He gives me a new thing to do, it gives my life a deeper meaning and purpose.
In October He directed me to start a podcast, which is just another method for me to stay in touch with you. I thought I wouldn’t get that done until 2020. By Nov. 20, God had put all the pieces in place and Sweet Grace for Your Journey podcast went live.
Today, Episode 4: The Great Adventure With God was released. This episode talks about how to step out of the feeling that our lives are dull, ordinary and mundane by stepping out in faith and allowing God to take us on a great adventure with Him. I give you the secret ingredient to make that happen.

Author and Blogger
After authoring five books and two study guides, I am thankful for the ideas and inspiration He has given me for the two books I’m working on right now. Both of them are in my heart, in my head and from time to time explode into words on paper when I can no longer hold them back.
One may be released soon, but probably not until 2020, though one never knows with God. His timing is up to Him. The other, my first fiction book, will take more time and prayer.
Yesterday, I posted my 1,000th blog post. Yep, I have 1,000 blog posts on my website. I have posts back as far as March 2009. That was to 560 weeks ago.
That means I’ve written the equivalent of two posts a week. Not sure how I did that. Only God knows. Some were just for certain audiences, like my Overcomers Weight Loss Coaching Academy.
Speaking of which, I am eternally grateful that back in 2014 God called me to begin coaching. I didn’t want to. I fought against it, but God knew that stepping into this calling would feed my soul and my writing like nothing else.
I am always challenged by questions asked by those in my group. I so love it, though, because I thrive on challenge. It compels me to dig deep into the mysteries of God. Then I run to Him for the answers He wants me to share.
By the way, Overcomers Academy will be opening its doors soon, but only for 48 hours. If you want to join, be sure you are on the waitlist. We’ll send you free resources while you wait and notify you the moment the doors open. Go here to signup on the waitlist: https://TeresaShieldsParker.com/Overcomers-Christian-Weight-Loss-academy/.
God’s Great Plan
I am thankful that all I do is orchestrated by God to help you. My pastor, Jeremy Risner, said last Sunday, “The goal of Christianity is for you to be saved and sent back into the world so others can hear about Jesus.” I so agree.
God has shown me that my main purpose in His great plan is to help Christians live long enough so they can do just that. I’m to be a fog horn announcing the fact that He does want us to prosper and succeed and be in good health physically even as our soul prospers spiritually, as 3 John 2 AMP says.
To be part of His great Kingdom plan gives my life meaning and purpose. “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” (Ephesians 2:10 NLT)
How about you? What gives your life meaning and purpose? What is God’s plan for you? What’s holding you back from fulfilling that plan?
