Love is an action verb. If we love God we will say “Yes” to Him and demonstrate that by our actions and behaviors. This is a dynamic principle to understand because it unlocks the power of God in our lives like nothing else can.
Put Feet To Your Faith
Simply putting feet to your faith or doing what you say you are going to do carries enormous weight with God. He can trust you. He can depend on you to take an order and follow through on it.
He doesn’t have to check up on you or remind you. You just do it because what He wants has become what you want.
Weight loss and healthy living were definitely things God wanted for me, things He’d given me instructions about and I had resisted for way too long. When I finally surrendered my ways completely to Him everything changed.
For years I had prayed and asked God to help me lose weight, but I wanted Him to bless the plans and schemes I’d cooked up, not giving up sugar. That seemed way to radical to me.
The Best Horrible Day
When I saw, really saw with my spiritual eyes what my lifestyle was doing to myself, my family, my witness for God, my destiny and purpose in Him my entire world came crashing down. It was, though, by far the best horrible day of my life.
The only place we can really say a wholehearted, “Yes,” to God is in total surrender. It’s the place where we say, “Take everything I have just give me Jesus.” It’s the time when we really, truly mean that from the bottom of our hearts.
It’s the time when we totally erase our agendas. The excuses and “Yeah God, buts,” are no longer there. Where we would move heaven and earth for a cinnamon roll we now would move heaven and earth to do exactly what we know brings pleasure to God.
Scary Good Place
It’s a scary good place to be. We know we are right smack dab in the middle of a God moment for which we have no paradigm. This is the best place we can be. It’s where He meets us because He knows we are finally ready to go all the way with Him.
I cannot really describe the gravity and urgency of this encounter. For me it was a time I will remember for the rest of my life. It was a visceral and deep inner feeling. I felt it in the pit of my stomach and in the weightiness in the air.
Everything changed for me and I knew I would never be the same again. The change was best seen, though, in my desires and what I did next.
Walking Out the Journey
I wanted to lose weight. I wanted to give up sugar. I wanted to learn how to lay down my addiction. I wanted to become healthy no matter what it took. I wanted to not just go on another diet, I wanted to change my habits for good. I wanted a transformation.
After walking out this journey for over 10 years now, I can say that God met me that day, but He didn’t automatically trust me.
He knew it would take time for me to go through the ups and downs of everyday life, learn to deal with temptations and cravings, figure out how to eat, what to eat and when to eat, understand that I really do love exercise and how important it is for me and more than anything else to practice being in His presence each and every moment of every day.
I’d been on this journey for about five years and lost 250 pounds when God validated my efforts. It was another one of those tangible moments I’ll never forget.
It felt as if He tapped me on the shoulder. He sensed Him say, “It’s time to put you in the game.”
“What game?” I asked.
“It’s time for you to write the book.” Now, I’d always wanted to write a book, but before this time, I didn’t know who the book would be about. I’ve always written about people so I knew it would be a person, but who?
He answered my question. “I want you to write your story about losing more than 250 pounds.”
Who Will Read It?
I had no expectations that anyone would ever read my book. There are over 32 million books on Amazon and an estimated one new one being published every five minutes. So I figured if it helped one person, it would be worth it.
God, though, has seen fit to show me how to promote Sweet Grace: How I Lost 250 Pounds and my other books so they help those who need them. He opened doors for me to speak and promote the book on Christian TV, radio and in magazines so much so that it became the #1 Christian weight loss memoir.
This was all due to God bringing people alongside me to show me the next step. None of this was my agenda.
She said, “Well, do you want to be a coach or a speaker or start a business?”
I said, “No, I just want to write a book.”
She said, “Well, we’ll go with that for now, but you will be doing much more than that.”
Her words were prophetic because she knew God had more in store for my life. I knew whatever might come would only be because I finally stopped running away from God screaming, “No, not in a million years,” and simply ran toward Him saying a heart-felt, “Yes.”
What’s God Got For You?
I wonder, what might God have in store for you if you were to say, “Yes” to allowing Him to show you how to manage the part of your life that has become unmanageable?
For me that was always food. God knew when He helped me get that under control, He would make me unstoppable. I had no idea of His plans for me. I used to not be able to speak in front of a crowd. Now it is one of the easiest things for me to do. That was a gift purely from God’s heart.
I’ve gone from being a book-less writer to an author of seven books. I’ve coached thousands through my free online courses and over a thousand in my coaching groups. I’ve been on nationwide, and even international, Christian television.
All because I once was blind to God’s ways (and weighed 430 pounds) and now I can see, know and experience the grace of God (and have shed 250 pounds).
“Never doubt God’s mighty power to work in you and accomplish all this. He will achieve infinitely more than your greatest request, your most unbelievable dream, and exceed your wildest imagination! He will outdo them all, for his miraculous power constantly energizes you,” (Ephesians 3:20 TPT).
