You can do it! Whatever your “it” is!
Over the years of my life, I found myself in the middle of situations. It seemed I would never see the light at the end of the tunnel or even the light of day. At times, everything seemed to be crashing in on me. I didn’t know what to do.
If you can relate and have had similar times, hang on. I say it again, hang on. When life seems more than you can bear and you have been hanging on for a long time, you have been making what I call, persevering progress. Perseverance is “steady persistence, especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement.” The progress is the steps you take day after day. Even though it may seem you are barely hanging on, you are making progress.
I have had to persevere through trials in my life I felt would never end. God allowed me to go through some hard times in my life, such as cancer at the young age of 24. I would have to say hearing the words, “it is cancer” really scared me. After 23 years of marriage I went through a divorce due to problems from my husband’s addiction.
Many times I felt overwhelmed, depressed and sad, but I also felt the grace of God carrying me. Had there been footprints in the sand, there would have only been one … His.
We are told in the Bible, whenever we face trials, we should consider it pure joy.1 Now, I don’t know about you, but I find it hard to be joyful in the midst of a trial or hardship.
During this time, we need to be seeking God and asking Him to show us how to consider the trial or hardship, pure joy. We aren’t just to consider it joy, but pure joy.
Pure joy only comes from above. Pure means it is free from any contaminates. This is God’s joy. He gives His joy to those who choose to seek Him and live for Him.
Pure joy is what He wants for everyone. His pure joy is the only way we can persevere through a trial and come out making progress for the purpose of the Kingdom of God.
It is through the trials of life our faith is tested. The testing of our faith over a period of time produces perseverance. The perseverance produces maturity in us. We become complete as children of God. The work God began in us and the trials He allowed us to suffer through are all for a purpose. He is making progress in our lives. If we remember to look for His grace, He will carry us when the steps are just too hard to take.
What trial are you currently going through? Have you asked God to show you His purpose and plan through it all?
Prayer for Perseverance
Dear Heavenly Father,
I praise and stand in awe of You. God, You allow us to go through trials for a purpose and a reason. God pour your grace and love on those going through trials right now. Reveal Yourself to them. Help them trust You. Carry them Lord. Embrace them with Your presence. Help them see the pure joy which only comes from knowing and living for You. As we make progress Lord in our lives, help us to persevere knowing you are finishing the work you began in us. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
