Do you want to take a ride for your life? Are you ready to be done with this ridiculous need to eat everything you see? It may feel a little like free-falling but, hang on. You will get there.

I know there are those of you who are frustrated on your journey. You feel you are a loser and you will never conquer your obsession with food. You will never arrive at your goal. It’s a long hard ride and you just are tired of trying.

You look at those of us who have lost extreme amounts of weight and you think, well sure you did that, but I just can’t. I have too much to lose or I like sweets too much or my family would never go for making a drastic lifestyle change.

I’m here to tell you that you that you can do it. It just takes a mindset change.

However, you are really on the right track when you say I can’t do it. You can’t. You have a weakness. First, you are human and we all have weaknesses. Second, you have an addiction to sugar and gluten.

Like any addict, we have to admit we are failing at trying to get free of our addiction. We are powerless and this obsession with certain foods has become unmanageable in our life. We can’t control it. It’s controlling us.

For someone like me who is a control freak at heart, it’s really difficult to admit that I can’t control something. I try and try and try to fix it on my own with my own willpower and intellect. I’m smart. I should be able to figure this out.

Coming to the place of surrender and admission that we have a problem is probably the first and hardest step in the process. You cannot control this with a short-term diet. You have a REAL problem. Admit it. You need to change your lifestyle.

Cry out to God in real desperation, but only when you are REALLY ready to let Him be in control of this area of your life. That means you listen to those God nudges telling you that you do not need that candy bar or piece of cake.

You get to the point that you finally believe there is a Power greater than you that can restore you to sanity and set your life on the right path.

It means you make a firm decision that you do whatever it takes, even learning how to cook differently than you have, to eat real food instead of processed, instant and easy and discovering what kind of exercise fits best in your schedule. It means making time for that and putting it as a priority.

It means for the season in your life, you put yourself first. You make this firm decision not based on selfishness but based on loving others so much you want to be around for the long haul to help them

You cannot help them if you aren’t here. You can affect the lives of many people when they see your firm commitment to the God of the universe. Your life can become a trophy of God’s grace. You can be His work of art on display for the world to see.

You firmly make the decision to turn your will, that part of you that is bent on trying every new diet and every trend to lose weight, over to the care of God.

Doing that frees you from self-effort and throws all of you full into the arms of a loving God who says He has plans for your life, plans for good and not disaster.

You know all about disaster. You walk around with the disaster you created every day. It’s all right, God loves you just as you are. He also wants you fit for the Kingdom, but He will lead you there gently, if you trust Him completely.

He will not take the food out of your hands, but if you allow Him full access to every hidden part of you, He will remind you. He will walk beside you as a companion to communicate, support and encourage you.

He is your best and most avid cheerleader. Just picture Him now with pom poms in whatever colors your favorite team wears, mine is black and gold. He’s the head cheerleader, doing flips, twirls and jumps, just for you!

He does not want you to fail. He only wants your success, your best.

Right now, put it all in His hands. Take your hands off and let Him lead you. It will require listening to Him and getting close to Him.

He’s better than anything you can taste on earth. He will feed you with His manna. Let Him show you how.

Pray this: Dear Lord, I give up. I admit I have a huge weakness and I lay it down. I surrender it. I don’t want to be controlled by food any more.

“I ask for you to show me the places I’ve become insane in my desire for certain foods and restore me to sanity. I give every piece of candy, cake, bread, potatoes, French Fries, fast food, breaded and fried foods, all the things I crave, over to You. I lay them at your feet as my offering.

“I can’t do it any more. I give up.”

I’m so proud of you. You are finally ready to start the journey to freedom. Hang on tight to the handlebars. It will be a ride for your life!
