What does it feel like when your brain explodes? Most people probably think it’s something bad, but in actuality, our brains, well okay, let me say it straight, MY brain likes to be in charge of everything, everywhere, all the time.

The problem is my brain, although I don’t use but a smidgeon of it, according to scientists, isn’t capable of doing that. It’s not even that capable of figuring everything out I should do next. The reality is that it needs input from lots of sources to figure out the the best thing to do next. If it were in charge all by itself, it would never take into account the needs of my body, my feelings, my will and most of all my spirit.

The Brain-Spirit Thing

It’s really my spirit that should be in charge. But like a pushy “friend” who wants to tell you how to run every part of your life, my brain will shove my spirit to the side. After all, says brain, I’m the one with the intelligence. You, spirit, you’re just this ethereal part of me with no particular substance. Perhaps, just perhaps you don’t really exist.

Here in is the problem. My brain just negated my spirit. The bigger problem is it’s my spirit that connects to God’s Spirit. My spirit has to be in charge in order for God to activate it. And if it is not activated it is simply the spirit of man.

Man’s spirit on it’s own belongs to the world and interprets things by the world’s standards.1 But our spirit has been activated by God’s Spirit.

The Apostle Paul explains that this is so that “we might realize and comprehend and appreciate the gifts of divine favor and blessing so freely and lavishly bestowed on us by God. And we are setting these truths forth in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Holy Spirit, combining and interpreting spiritual truths with spiritual language to those who possess the Holy Spirit.”2

Blow Up My Brain

I want to be led by the Spirit of God, not by my brain. In order for that to happen I have to blow up my brain in order to put in its place. It’s a simple process that doesn’t include actual dynamite, but something much more powerful—a simple decision when God’s Spirit dropped the truth into my spirit.

First, the right environment is important. God’s Spirit must be moving because remember my brain is in charge. So I must be in an atmosphere where His Spirit is predominant. And then I must listen and act on what I hear. It’s a simple decision. “Brain move over. Spirit, you’re in charge.”

Too many times I face a problem head on trying to figure it out. God gave me my brain to follow my spirit’s leading when it is following God’s Spirit. When I try to figure out answers to problems without asking His guidance first, I am only operating on one cylinder—my own. And somehow it’s programmed to keep me going in circles.

If your brain is like mine, it struggles to maintain top billing. It’s really a bully that way. It pushes Spirit aside and says, “So back up in the sky somewhere. You made me to think so I’m going to think.” Then my spirit says, “You can think after I ask God’s Spirit what direction we are headed.”

When I put my spirit in charge and demote my brain it is an actual re-wiring of my brain. Neural pathways are getting rerouted in regard to what I do first. I don’t do my normal thing of attacking a problem by dissecting it, taking it apart and trying to put it back together.

It has gotten some results. However, what happens if I’m halfway through the dissection and realize that’s not what I need to be doing at all? Now, I have to put everything back together in order to go at this a different way.

All it takes is a few minutes to give a nod to my spirit to connect with God’s Spirit and invite His presence into whatever situation it might be. And bam, my brain is dethroned and my spirit is in charge. What an explosion.

My brain literally ached when I did this. It didn’t know what to do, but my spirit connected to God’s gently led it.  Where my brain had not been kind to itself with allowing itself to get proper rest with spirit in charge it now tells brain to shut down and it does.  The next day, it raring to go because it is refreshed.

God’s Explodes My Brain Differently

Here’s where the second explosion comes in. When I invited the Spirit of God to take over, He exploded my brain with insight. He actually exploded others’ brains and opened doors for them to assist me with what has to happen next.

It was like chain reaction explosions and they all began from one explosion—the one where I blew up my brain.

Now my first response is, “Let me ask God and I’ll get back with you.” I’ve always been of the opinion that God will help me figure out any problem. However, just like the kid who needs help with a math problem but never asks the teacher, I won’t get help from God unless I ask Him for it. He’s not auto-answer man. He’s waiting for us to ask Him.

Just Ask Spirit

That’s number one. Ask. God says, “Ask and it will be given to you. Seek and you will find. Knock and the door will be opened for you.”

Pretty neat, huh? All it takes is asking. So much easier than beating your head against the wall. Much easier than taxing your brain to the limit and to only find yourself going in circles.

You know what?  This ask God thing works.Try it for yourself. Dethrone your brain. Don’t abandon it. Just put your spirit in touch with God’s Spirit in charge of every situation.

Then when you have a problem or a decision to make, on the front end before you do anything else, hand it to God and ask Him, what do you give me in exchange? He’ll give you the answer or a tool to discover the answer.

Then, that’s where rested brain comes in and goes to work under the Holy Spirit’s careful leadership. And when it gets stuck, it just asks Spirit for direction.

Here’s the very awesome thing about this, now we actually can do greater things that Jesus because we are finally operating on Holy Spirit power rather than human ingenuity.4

The possibilities of what we can accomplish are only limited by how in tune with God’s Spirit we are. Greater works than even Jesus. Now, that blows my mind.
