There is only one way to lose weight permanently and that is to step into a total transformation. I don’t mean a short-term fix. I mean a forever change. It’s what we really want, but many will never even attempt or desire for that to happen. Why is that?

Billion-Dollar Industry

According to Bloomberg, Americans spend $40 billion a year on weight loss programs which tell them what to eat, when to eat and how much to eat or give them a pill and say, “Keep eating what you want and take this pill.”

The diet industry is alive and well while two-thirds of Americans are overweight, tired and slowly dying. Our stress-laden lifestyles of working harder and longer hours while always needing more money just to pay our current bills, leave us little time to plan or cook healthy meals, much less exercise or examine why we are turning to food to relieve our issues in the first place.

Spin Cycle

We are in an endless spin cycle of working harder to make more money to buy weight loss products and programs that in turn cause us to have more stress because they don’t give us the magic diet and quick, easy fix we are after. We go back to our overstressed lifestyles eating fast-food in order to bolster our stamina to get through the next day.

For 30 years I was in this never ending vortex. Any weight loss product, diet or new program which claimed to change me without effort I would buy. I wanted it to fix me. I did not want to change. I just wanted something to miraculously melt my fat and pounds with no effort on my part.

No Quick Fixes

Most every weight loss program out there will promise a quick fix in some shape or form. It’s one reason I can’t use my legitimate before and after picture in an ad on Facebook. They consider it unrealistic expectations that I have lost 260 pounds in 12 years!

I can assure you, mine is very real. As a matter of fact, it is so real that just looking at the picture motivates me to stay the course. I never want to go back there again.


Tip of the Iceberg

Weight loss is hard work. Don’t let anyone tell you any different. I’m not joining the ranks of those who promise magic weight loss. I believed all of those lies for years. Instead, I am beginning a new low-cost weight loss coaching class April 1 that tells you the truth. It’s hard work, but you can do it with the help of a coach whose been there, fellow travelers on the journey and God’s help.

My new coaching class is not about a that four-letter word diet. #KickWeight is about a lifestyle change. It’s about stepping into transformation—body, soul and spirit. Because what we eat is important, we will talk about what, how and when we should eat. But that is just the physical tip of the iceberg.

Supporting the iceberg is all the emotional lies and spiritual misbeliefs we have bought into so much they have become an integral part of us. Even as Christians we feel like we can pray and ask God to fix us and He will zap us and make all our cravings go away.

While I have great faith and believe God can do anything He wants, I have never heard of Him instantly making 260 pounds immediately fall off anyone.

Key to Total Transformation

Why doesn’t do that? He wants us to learn something in this process. He uses any difficulty we have to draw us closer to Him than we have ever imagined if we completely surrender it to Him.

We can step into total transformation and keep walking in His ways. We should pray, but our prayers should be directed towards what God wants from us.

“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for Him.

“Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what He wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.”1
