The originals, the things that last and stand the test of time, those are inspired thoughts directly from the Creator.

When I was a kid I tried to figure out why there were all ages of people in the world from newborn babies to really, old people who were like my age now.  In my all-knowing five-year old wisdom I supposed that people grew up or older and then they grew down or younger and just repeated the cycle.

My favorite saying thing to tell people was, “When I grow down, I’m going to…” do whatever was on my mind at the time.

Original? My children tell me that “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” has a similar story line.

As a writer for years I’ve tried to copyright my stories and ideas so someone else won’t steal them.  Really, though, are there any “original” ideas?

There was a time when earth did not exist.  It was “a soup of nothingness, a bottomless emptiness, an inky blackness.”1  You and I didn’t exist. Our cat and dog didn’t exist.  There wasn’t a blade of grass.

There was nothing. Nada. Zip. Fade to black.

Then something happened. Science says one thing. Evolution another. Big Bang Theory another.  Creationists another.  But most everyone agrees something major had to begin the process.

Just so you know, I do choose to believe it was God who started the whole ball rolling.  I was re-reading the story and I noticed a word I hadn’t seen before.  “And the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.”2

Rewind. God was hovering? I envision the God of the Universe in a hovercraft speeding over the ocean.  But God wasn’t in a hovercraft. He was the original hovercraft.

What happens when something hovers?  It means, among other things, to be suspended, brood over, dance, drift, flicker, flit, flitter, flutter, fly, hang about, linger, wait.3  Notice how every synonym has action involved?

Think of the energy it takes to keep something aloft on a cushion of air.  God was that energy.  Because of that energy, he was able to utter the next sentence: “Let there be light.”  Then, guess what?  “There was light.”4

Total darkness.  Then total light.  What wasn’t before, now was.  What wasn’t even thought about before, now existed.

The original God was the source for the light, for the creation of everything. He thought of it all, even the thought you are thinking right now.  Yep, he’s the omega and the alpha. The end and the beginning. The last and the first.

There are no original thoughts.  Sure there are some unique ways of saying certain things, looking a situations, thinking of ways to get a theme or point across.  I even believe there are stories that are “inspired” from a darker realm.

The originals, the things that last and stand the test of time, those are inspired thoughts directly from the Creator.

He breathed his Spirit, his energy into us and caused us to be.  He is the source. So if you want to talk about invigoration of original thought, hands down, folks.

God’s got it.

Quote and Writing Prompt from #Trust30

“The arts and inventions of each period are only its costume, and do not invigorate men.”  Think of the last time that you thought, said, or did something that was original. What inspired or invigorated this?  (Author: Michael Brajkovich)
